Inspiration within the Museum Place Community Garden

“Vegetables grow in vegetable gardens.  And people grow in community gardens.”

Whether it’s a garden that covers acres on a vast country estate or a community garden smack dab in the middle of a city, gardens are magical. Last Friday evening, while spending a few days with my friend, MJ, we hit the Toledo Museum of Art for the It’s Friday event.

We took the long way back to the car down a sidewalk next to a twig fence in miniature keeping pretty marigolds all in a row.

Yes, I discovered enchantment within the Museum Place, a community garden in the Old West End neighborhood.

A flagstone walk invited us to enter a bouquet of gardens. . .
Here a polka dot marker designated the plot number...

and over there a marker stood colorful in a stand of pink achillea.

There were vegetables and herbs growing with jubilant abandon as cars streamed by.

A small bed of stones kept green and purple basils in place.
I smiled at sunflowers; the joyfully open and shy buds...

I found elegance...

Beauty...

Reminders...

But most of all I found H O P E..
The Toledo Botanical Garden sponsors Toledo Grows and within the program eight community gardens throughout the city offer residents the opportunity to grow their own vegetables, flowers, and herbs. Please take some time to wander over to their website and if you’re in Toledo, visit one of the gardens. You’ll leave smiling and inspired...I sure did!
