I played trumpet and French horn in the band, but it was always the piano that enchanted me. Then one day I had a little girl of my own. She learned to play the piano through the instruction of several area pianists, but she wanted to play the flute.
And boy...could she play the flute. Her sound was rich with lush bravado. To this day I love the sound of the flute, the violin, and the piano, my three favorite instruments.
When I think back music enriched my life from the deep baritone of my dad's voice to the sweet lilting notes of my daughter's flute. My sister went on to get her degree in music and teach. I went on to play the piano in the solitary confines of the parlor, and my daughter...once in a great while she picks up her flute and makes a joyful noise that this mama adores.

Oh that Kim Klassen! She's done it again with yet another lovely texture titled, Lola. The flute photo is layered with Lola and also Kim's Wonderful Magic Stars. Search for more textured beauties here...
this is so awesome!!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of using music sheets, nicely done.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful story, great composition, and the texture works perfectly!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful story with a beautiful image to go along with it. Memories. Sweet ones. :)
ReplyDeleteMy Thing #3 plays the flute too...and I love listening to her up in her bedroom when she practices. I grew up playing the piano and rue the day my mom caved in to my pleading and allowed me to quit! Perhaps one of the biggest regrets of my life. I have often toyed with getting a piano and taking it back up at my "mature" age. Love the composition of your photo and the texture puts it over the top beautiful!

Thanks to each of you for your kind comments.
ReplyDeleteKathy...I continued playing through the years until I sold my beautiful piano, a decision I regret to this day. Absolutely take it up again, it's never too late.
This photo is so beautiful Teresa! I bet your daughter would love to have it framed to remind her of her (and your) love of music.
ReplyDeleteSo soulful and yearning. The whole post speaks of music; that it lingers in the soul long after the piece has faded into the ether.
ReplyDeleteI can almost hear each instrument being played as you have described those playing, so well ... each differently, uniquely.
Perfect photo for the texture! Beautiful!
