I hold Extension agencies in high regard on most things, but I don't believe any one person/agency has all the answers. What I will not do is use toxins on plants that will be served at my table. BTW...what book are you referring to?

Thanks for stopping by, PatrickTeresa Ohttp://thecottageonthecorner.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495288606199254522.post-44108881483793587562012-07-13T06:12:34.525-04:002012-07-13T06:12:34.525-04:00Beautiful garden, drought or no drought. Our garden is suffering from lack of rain, but we are hand carrying water at least twice a week. It is down on my brother's farm and not near a water hose. The one good thing is the lack of weeds to hoe this year. I think I'll try the Marigolds next year.Roanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01841824351740989301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495288606199254522.post-16497501377306810902012-07-07T19:16:52.164-04:002012-07-07T19:16:52.164-04:00Hi Robin...Yep still in northwest Ohio. I planted nasturtiums from seed, too, and not one has a bud on it, in fact several of the little plants have pretty much bit the dust. I'm still watering in hopes that eventually they'll bloom. As for marigolds...I always use them in the vegetable garden, but next year mounds of marigolds will be interspersed in the rows with vegies.Teresa Ohttp://thecottageonthecorner.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495288606199254522.post-75709853523927042472012-07-07T19:12:52.418-04:002012-07-07T19:12:52.418-04:00Thanks Nancy! Now I'm a summer lover, don't get me wrong, but whew! Even I am growing weary of this intense heat and drought. I usually use marigolds around my veggies, but this year I thought I'd try nasturtiums from seed. Here it is July, and still no flowers. Next year, I either buy the nasturtiums already in bloom or it's back to marigolds!RobinLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09543576456983999997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495288606199254522.post-85222177130579126972012-07-07T08:16:14.574-04:002012-07-07T08:16:14.574-04:00Gorgeous garden -- you seem to have found a way to...Gorgeous garden -- you seem to have found a way to make your garden grow in this heat.

Thank you for sharing at Rural Thursdays this week. xoNancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06116903234641971344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495288606199254522.post-88469383289322758282012-07-06T10:28:31.857-04:002012-07-06T10:28:31.857-04:00Thanks for stopping by Kia. You know my favorite all time lunch was when I was in my twenties and a lady I worked with took me home for lunch one day. She went out and picked fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions for our salad. It was warm and wonderful, and I remember the taste of that salad to this day.

KarenAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01487481759201796912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495288606199254522.post-13394850769459333202012-07-05T14:19:37.265-04:002012-07-05T14:19:37.265-04:00Your garden looks great! I can't believe the echinacea I planted in the spring is having such a hard time of it. I've lost lavender, one thyme, and two larkspur plants that I'd hoped would make it to the seed stage.
