It is a tricky path, that one you so eloquently describe and I am still trying to find the way to walk side by side with my DIL. We don't live close enough for me to drop by and weed, or anything else, I try to be careful and not step on toes. Maybe I am trying too hard. :-)
FrancesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495288606199254522.post-33813712416040974832010-05-28T12:34:47.850-04:002010-05-28T12:34:47.850-04:00To say my mil was witty is an understatement. There were times when living less than 2 miles down the road was way too close, so I thought.

You were a well-brought up young lady! My father swore like a sailor and I guess I inherited a bit of his salty language.Teresa Ohttp://thecottageonthecorner.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495288606199254522.post-50378424110543936702010-05-28T07:46:36.141-04:002010-05-28T07:46:36.141-04:00What a smart woman and a lovely story. This has nothing to do with my mil but the words yours spoke when you uttered that expletive. On one of the first dates with my husband, as he backed his car into the one behind, he also uttered those words. I stood there in shock- he looked at me, "what?" "Do you know what you said?" The girl who had never heard such a word in her life. Wish I could have come up with something like you mil.Rock rose https://www.blogger.com/profile/00348711150803587369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495288606199254522.post-25652565506302022362010-05-25T08:32:55.319-04:002010-05-25T08:32:55.319-04:00Hi Linda! I have lots of find memories of my mil who passed away many years ago, but the first few years were somewhat rocky. Even after that day in the garden, I'd find myself rolling my youthfull eyes at her. She had a different mindset formed in a generation I could barely comprehend, but that day was the first time I saw my mil as someone other than this unbelievably bright woman that I thought was too much into my business.

Thank you for coming back, reading, and commenting. I hope you do write about your garden and your relationships with other women. I look forward to it.

*Hugs*Teresa Ohttp://thecottageonthecorner.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495288606199254522.post-63747496217747174562010-05-24T20:58:02.146-04:002010-05-24T20:58:02.146-04:00when i saw your first few words in my reader, i th...when i saw your first few words in my reader, i thought perhaps i had raised your ire just a tad and had not meant to at all! so came rushing over to see what the ruckus was really about to read this story, so very like my own "tales with anna" --my own mother in law...today, 40 years later, we still have the same differences and i did, after all, steal away her baby boy--we were so young and she was not happy-

but in the end at 87 years young, i have a respect for her i shall never have for another woman and realize now things i never knew in my youth... i suspect it is much the same with you and this was a wonderful telling of a tale many young women face, all over the world, when first faced with the mother of the son whom we happen to marry...the ups and downs are part of the journey in the end and if it was just a smooth road, it wouldn't be quite so much fun--like a roller coaster you never thought you'd ride but then you end up riding it over and over again...well...you get my point anyway :)
xoxox
♥L'Adelaidehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10725322054223364858noreply@blogger.com
